“ During our annual stay on SPI we discovered this gem! The Grouchy Gringo is a New Orleans creole style restaurant that hits the mark. I am very familiar with Creole and Cajun cuisine from my time in Louisiana. I usually avoid these places when I’m nowhere near Louisiana... but boy am I glad that I didn’t avoid The Grouchy Gringo. We ended up eating there 4 nights in a row. The food is excellent. The service is spectacular. The ambiance is quirky and fun. And the chef is top notch. Don’t miss this one! ”
“ Awesome great Cajun food, if you have the right palate your in for a great bite. Highly recommended. ”
“ You cannot pass this restaurant up! The food here is amazing! The service is incredible. It's in a great location in Port Isabel - right by the lighthouse. This is the best breakfast/brunch on the island. Trust. ”
“ One of the best meals I had on my beach vacation! When you walk into the restaurant you are greeted with a wonderful array of fun wall art & sayings. I especially liked the “Leftovers are for Quitters”. The owner definitely has a sense of humor. Can’t say enough good things about this place. Everything we had was delicious. We ordered the Cajun egg rolls... so good! I ordered the BBQ Shrimp & it was amazing! I would highly recommend The Grouchy Gringo! ”
“ Food was fantastic, service was awesome, environment was a thrill seeing and reading all the wall posters, and no wait time. Definitely got in, enjoyed and left!!! ”
“ This place is great! I over ordered on purpose but just a normal meal would have needed a box! I had the Cajun egg rolls, biscuits and gravy, hash browns, beignets and a mimosa. It was so good. Beignets we so soft and fluffy. Cajun egg rolls had so much flavor, and the rest of the meal was perfect, too. I’m excited for leftovers! Shane was an amazing server, but the girls were so much fun as well. Pro tip: sit at the bar for a great time. ”
“ Friendly waitress and chef working hard to satisfy customers even when they are short of staff. The food was EXCELLENT! You have to try it. We didn’t mind waiting for the great food. ”
“ Funky fun casual place with very good food. Best meal we had in the South Padre Island - Port Isabel area. We had the Cajun Egg Rolls, my son had the fried chicken sandwich, my wife had the New Orleans BBQ Shrimp and I had the fried shrimp poboy. All were excellent, better than the other 6 places we dinned out. They also offer sides besides fries. The Brussels and asparagus were but very good. Let’s keep it real, you need a Louisiana influenced restaurant to serve the best Gulf seafood. Highly recommend. ”
